Mark is a Chartered Engineer and founder of Ternan Energy, an independent marine geoscience firm supporting the renewable energy transition. He brings 30 years of experience of offshore geotechnical engineering and foundation design in the offshore renewable energy, subsea power cable, and oil and gas sectors. He has worked for a broad range of offshore companies—including site investigation firms, EPCI contractors, operators, and developers—and brings deep expertise in soil engineering, foundation installation, and trenching design.

Mark regularly advises clients on complex project issues relating to soil conditions, foundation design, and installation, and he frequently serves as an Expert Witness in high-value disputes. His expertise spans driven and drilled pile foundations, monopiles, suction caissons, gravity-based structures, marine anchors, trenching and rock placement operations, and jack-up platform emplacement.

Recognised as a leading authority in offshore geotechnics, he has authored numerous technical papers and serves on several industry panels and advisory bodies.

At Transect, Mark provides senior technical advisory support, helping clients de-risk offshore wind development through rigorous site characterisation, foundation design guidance, and installation best practices.
